If the truth, or at the very least, the visible, present truth of a place ever manifested, it is made impossible to be observed when I am absent. The only approximation is to recreate the image of this place as it is, so as to have a glimpse of the invisible truth through "de L’écran" (the screen), much like the processing of seeing described in Merleau-Ponty’s "Visible et invisible".
Fakestate: Liar Tool is an extended probe of Fakestate: Interstate #195, in which I collected images of a “real-estate” through a scientifically “real” tool - an DSLR camera. These images then underwent a precise, if not dogmatic, process of computer graphic programming for me to technically “see” its very truth. The seemingly reliable procedure reveals the lying nature of image-making and the impossible reunion of myself and a by-gone place in my absence. That one pristine, genuine, always unwavering place in memory never existed, and whoever’s attempting to retrieve it’s truth merely ends up with fleeting pixels invented by liar tools.
