Fakestate: Interstate #195

My interrogation of the truth of the place (”real-estate”) reveals to me a forever-approaching yet untouchable abyss. An abyss of missed chances, misplaced memories, and misused media.
It began with a rendezvous with this old man on this bridge across this river, around which I was shooting for a personal project about an absent section of US Interstate Highway #195, which was relocated to accommodate it’s new intersection with Interstate #95. I was a young college student back then, heading out in early spring, searching for any evidence that would prove the existence of a forgotten urban infrastructure, as if that would somehow magically repair my relationship with that strange city. We met. We talked. He walked away. Leaving behind a monologue on Providence’s history, and our ways of existence within.
